PURPOSE:To prevent connection defects by using a thermal compression type flexible cable whose length can be set to an optional value and connecting a liquid crystal display panel and a driving circuit mounted substrate. CONSTITUTION:A light source 7 for back light is constituted by building cold cathode tube fluorescent lamps 10 into grooves on side faces of a photoconductive plate 9, and the light emitted from cold cathode tube fluorescent lamps 10 passes the photoconductive plate 9 to form a plane light source of uniform brightness for a liquid crystal panel 1. In this liquid crystal display device, a thermal compression type flexible cable 14 is used to connect the liquid crystal display panel 1 and a driving circuit mounted substrate 5 for the purpose of applying an electric signal to scanning electrodes 111 and signal electrodes 121 constituted in a matrix with transparent conductive films in the liquid crystal display panel 1. Consequently, the length of the cable is set to an optional value, and the light source for back light which uses cathode tube fluorescent lamps and the photoconductive plate and has >=5mm thickness can be built into one body. Thus, connection defects are eliminated and characters and pictures can be identified even in a dark place. |
