Red mud is reacted with rice chaff to form bricks. A method for disposing of red mud comprises mixing the mud with rice chaff so that the sodium hydroxide reacts with the silicon in the chaff. This puzzolan reaction is used to form high-value bricks or building blocks without the use of firing or sintering steps.
