PURPOSE:To obtain the titled amorphous compound material useful as a (photo- responding) magnetic material, magnetic memory material, optoelectronic switching element, etc., by heating and melting a mixture of B2O3 and BaO, and quenching the molten mixture at an extremely high rate of cooling. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of B2O3 and BaO having a desired composition is put into the tube 7, and melted by heating at a temperature higher than the melting point of the mixture by 50-200 deg.C. The molten mixture is ejected through the opening of the nozzle 11 by the dry air pressure of 0.1-2.0kg/cm<2> to the surface of the roll 13 placed at a distance of 0.01-1.0mm. from the nozzle and rotated at a circumferential speed of 5-35m/sec, and quenched extremely rapidly at a cooling rate of 10<4>-10<8> deg.C/sec. The quenched product collected in the reservoir 23 is discharged from the outlet port 25 to obtain the objective boron-barium amorphous compound material having the composition of formula (B2O3)1-x.(BaO)x (0.95>=x>0).
