A perpendicular write head having a stepped flare structure and a manufacturing method thereof are precisely control the throat height of a magnetic shield in a flare point and a magnetic write head through a photolithography process. A perpendicular write head having a stepped flare structure as a magnetic write head for recording magnetic data comprises a magnetic write pole core part(3302), and a magnetic shell part. The magnetic write pole core part has an end disposed at an air bearing surface. The magnetic shell part surrounds a portion of the magnetic write pole core part, and defines a flare point of a write pole to be recessed from the air bearing surface. The write pole core part has an upper surface, and the magnetic shell part coats the upper surface of the write pole core part in a recession of the air bearing surface.
