PURPOSE:To eliminate the needs for piping from a main tank to a head by a method in which a subtank is provided to the head unit, recording is made on given numbers of papers by ink in the subtank, the head unit is restored to its initial position, and then ink is supplied from the main tank. CONSTITUTION:In an ink jet recorder, a main ink tank 16 is provided on the recorder side, and an ink subtank 31 is provided to a head unit 2. The amount of ink to be stored in the subtank 31 is controlled to an amount enough to record given numbers of papers. After given numbers of papers are recorded, the head unit 2 is restored to its initial position, a capping device 7 is contacted with the head unit 2, and the pressure of the subtank 31 is reduced by the pump 8. The ink can thus be supplied through the pipe 18 and the capping device 7 from the main tank 16. |
