By virtue of the roller chain which passes in a circle over the roller gearwheels and the circle diameter of which can be varied by displacement downwards and upwards by means of a displacement device, rotation of the input shaft part also involves a change in the speed of rotation of the roller gearwheels. If, in the process, the step-up ratio of the roller gearwheels relative to the circle diameter of the roller chain has reached the reduction ratio of the output gearing part, the input shaft part A rotates about the output shaft part B without a difference, i.e. the output part B remains stationary. If the step-up ratio becomes larger than the reduction ratio of part B, which remains constant at all times, part B is set in rotation in accordance with the change in the step-up ratio, beginning with the minimum difference. If, on the other hand, the step-up ratio of part A falls below the reduction ratio of part B, this part B is set in rotation in the opposite direction, likewise in accordance with the change in the step-up ratio. Thus, when part A rotates, the output part B can be set in rotation in an infinitely variable manner from standstill, in both directions.
