The contact sole of a shoe consists of a sole layer which is resistant to abrasion and a sole plate embedded therein which is proof against the penetration of sharp-edged articles such as nails, steel fragments and the like. In order that the connection between the sole plate and the sole layer should firstly prevent the penetration of sharp-edged articles into the interior of the shoe and secondly not impair the flexibility of the sole itself, including the upper, the sole plate is formed from high-strength, dense, superposed layers of textile material which are integrated into the sole layer and, together therewith, form the contact sole.
