PURPOSE:To heat a titanium cast ingot so as to obtain stable quality, by heating the titanium cast ingot to a rolling enabling temp. in a soaking pit for steel in such a state that said cast ingot enters a heating box formed of a lower cover and an upper cover. CONSTITUTION:A lower cover 8 is set in a pit furnace 1 and a titanium cast ingot 6 is grasped by a pit crane equipped with spherical surface punches to be put on the cast ingot receiving seat of the lower cover 8. After a predetermined number of the cast ingots 6 have been charged, an upper cover 10 is grasped by the pit crane to cover the cast ingots 6 and set above the lower cover 8. After all charging is completed, the cast ingots 6 are heated to a rolling enabling temp. in the furnace 1. Subsequent to heating, the furnace lid 2 is removed and the upper cover 10 is taken out of the furnace by the pit crane while the cast ingots 6 are extracted to be supplied to a rolling line.
