PURPOSE:To improve the crop-shapes at the front and rear ends of a rolling material by using a caliber roll for a vertical roll and moving vertically its upper flange of roll for adjusting a bottom part of caliber so as to make its width approximately equal to the thickness of the material. CONSTITUTION:In case of rolling a sheet material by using reversibly rotatable horizontal and vertical rolls, a caliber roll is used for the vertical roll 1. During rolling, a sleeve 5 is expanded by applying a pressure to a pressure chamber 7 through an oil passage 6, to fix the upper flange 3 of roll 1 to a prescribed position. The flange 3 is fixed at every pass by expanding the sleeve 5 after adjusting the bottom width of the caliber by moving the flange 3 in the direction of the roll 1-body length with the aid of a lifting device 4, to make the bottom width W approximately equal to the sheet thickness of a material 10 just before horizontal rolling. Next, the material 10 is edged while restricting it by the upper and lower flanges 3 and 2. In this way, the front and rear ends of material 10 are formed into approximately rectangular shapes respectively. |
