PURPOSE:To speed up longitudinal and lateral conversion in an output raster direction by writing image pattern data for one page as N-bit parallel row or column data, and then reading the pattern data successively as N-bit parallel columns or rows. CONSTITUTION:A square storage matrix 1 of N rows by N columns is constituted; input lines from an input data register 2 are connected to write data terminals of the same columns (or rows) of the square storage matrix in common, and output lines of an output data register 3 are connected to readout terminals of the same rows (or columns) of the matrix 1 in common. All storage elements 1a-1p which constitute the matrix 1 are supplied with an address signal 5 from an address generator 4 in common, so image data for one page is written in predetermined order and then read out in specific order.
