PURPOSE:To make tracking control possible by providing a magnetic head having a scanning width wider than the width of a track and a guard band which are formed with a rotary head and using this magnetic head to record a tracking control signal in a prescribed position of said track. CONSTITUTION:An audio signal is supplied to an A/D converter 22 through an input terminal 21 and is converted to a digital PCM signal and is sent to an encoder 23. In this example, the digital audio signal of a time corresponding to half rotation of the rotary head is subjected to time compression by a time slightly shorter than the time for which the head is brought into contact with the tape. Error correction code generating and adding processings, an interleaving processing, etc. are performed. The output signal of this recording encoder 23 is suppoied to a recording processor 24 and is modulated to a signal suitable for recording and reproducing. The PCM signal from the processor 24 is recorded on a PCM signal recording area through a recording area changeover switch 25 and a head changeover switch 26, and thus, only the reproducing output is used to perform the tracking control of the rotary head. |
