N alpha-acyl L-alkyl diamino acids and their salts are made by (a) preparing N alpha, N omega-dicarbobenzoxy L-diamino acids by direct reaction between the amino acid and carbobenzoxyl chloride; (b) forming the alkyl ester by reaction with an alcohol in acid medium using thionyl chloride as catalyst simultaneously releasing the carbobenzoxyl gp. attached to the alpha-amino gp., giving a N omega-carbobenzoxy L-diamino acid; (c) condensing a fatty acid with the diamino acid through the alpha-amino gp., followed by breaking off the carbobenzoxyl gp. by catalytic hydrogenation; and (d) saponifying to form mono-cation salts in cold aq. alcoholic medium.
|
