PURPOSE:To recover the fatigue of a shape memory alloy by heating the shape memory alloy in a no-load state to the transformation point or above. CONSTITUTION:Coils 1, 2 formed of a shape memory alloy are connected at one end to a connecting point 3 and at the other end to a body to be driven (for example, a door of a cooker) 5 and a fixed point 4. The door 5 is connected leftward by means of a spring 6. The point 3 and the ends of the coils 1, 2 are made connectable to a DC power source 11 by means of a flexible line and the contacts (a)-(f) of a selector switch 10. If the (d) and (f) as well as (e) and (c) are now connected, the coils 1, 2 are electrically heated to contract by overcoming the force of the spring 6. The door 5 displaces angularly in a clockwise direction around a pivotal shaft 7. When the conduction of electricity is interrupted, both coils extends and the door 5 returns to the home position. The points (d) and (b) as well as (e) and (c) are connected to decrease the deterioration in the memory of the coils 1, 2. The coil 1 is then heated to the transformation point or above in the no-load state and maintains said state for a prescribed time. The coil 2 is thereafter heated in the same way.
