PURPOSE:To manufacture a solidified body of cubic boron nitride at a low cost by blending cubic boron nitride powder with Al powder and superheat resistant NI-base or Co-base alloy powder in a specified ratio and sintering the blend at medium temp. and pressure. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a powdered mixture as a starting material for sintering is composed of 60-85wt% cubic boron nitride powder, 9-12wt% Al powder and 3-31wt% superheat resistant Ni-base or Co-base alloy powder. The starting material is sintered by heating at 1,000-1,300 deg.C under 10-30ton/ cm<2> pressure. A solidified body of cubic boron nitride is industrially manufactured at a low cost.
