PURPOSE:To attain a lisp language processing system which can shorten the searching time by storing the identification code to a main chaining cell to identify the variable name and searching the variable name with use of said identification code. CONSTITUTION:Cells L1, L2... in a memory M are used for main chaining; while cells L'1, L'2... are used for branching, respectively. A variable name ABD defined in a work area M5 is read out to a register R1 by a control part S and then sent to a shifter of an arithmetic part F via a bus BSU3. The name ABD is connected to an address of the cell L'3 which should be stored in the 2nd area of the cell L3 read out of a register group RG through the part F and stored in a writing register R3. Then the address of the cell L3 is stored in an address register R2, and therefore the identification code of the ABD is written to the 1st area of the L3. While the address of the cell L'3 is written to the 2nd area of the L3. In the same way, the information including the identification code is written to other cells respectively.
