According to this method, part of the paint or varnish particles is eliminated from the air by means of a conventional washer, and the humid air thus obtained goes through an electrical separator by a wet process (18) of which the separation surfaces (145, 146) are rinsed with a liquid which evacuates the paint particles. A dry agent, which may be a cooled rinsing liquid, is atomized in the air between the washer and the separator (18).
