PURPOSE:To improve measuring accuracy by measuring the intensity of gamma rays from highly concentrated uranium metal at the presence and absence of a sample and finding out a self-absorption factor of gamma rays of the sample when uranium concentration is to be measured by K-edge absorbing method. CONSTITUTION:A cobalt 57 sealed line source 3 and an uranium foil 4 project gamma and X rays. The gamma and X rays are passed through a colimeter 5, a through hole 11 of a shutter 6, a colimeter 7, an uranium solution (sample) 13, and a colimeter 9 and detected by a high purity germanium detector 10. Highly concentrated uranium metal 12 is fitted to the shutter 6. When the shutter 6 is closed, gamma rays are projected from the uranium metal 12. At the presence and absence of the sample 13, gamma rays from the uranium metal 12 are measured and the self-absorption factor of the gamma rays of the sample 13 is found out. The uranium concentration is compensated by the self-absorption factor and the measuring accuracy is improved.
