PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of warping by molding a friction material into a nearly U-shaped groove form in a manner that an almost rectangular contact face to be touched by a sliding object is traversally divided into two section. CONSTITUTION:A fibrous base material is mixed with an abrasion characteristic improver and a filler and then with a phenolic resin binder in a hot molten state to obtain a mixture 4. The mixture 4 is put in molds having a convexed portion on its male mold and pressed in a compression molding machine to obtain a friction material 1. In this case, the friction material having an oblong frictional face is divided into left and right-handed halves by the convexed portion provided to the male mold. Since the difference in the dimension between the vertical and cross sections of the friction material so divided is less, the occurrence of warping can be prevented. The friction material 1 is finally bonded to a back plate 2 in a pressing manner. |
