Apparatus for a one- or two- sided coating of a vertically travelling web (1) comprising a coating applicator, in which said web is in contact with a coating substance held at atmospheric pressure, and a flexible blade (2) cooperating with a back-up member (19) for levelling a coating substance layer on the web. The applicator comprises a flow regulator (26) which forms between it and the web (1) a clearance (18). This clearance is either of uniform height or is inclined towards the web in the travel direction of the web. This height is smaller than the thickness of a natural layer of coating substance remaining on web without cooperation with the flow regulator. The applicator is further provided with a slot (5) that forms a web entrance at the bottom of the applicator. <IMAGE> |
