PURPOSE:To reduce cracking of produced coke, by performing dry distillation of coal with a specified fluidity in a coke oven at a veried feed of fuel under programmed heating. CONSTITUTION:In the production of coke employing programmed heating in which the feed of fuel in a dry fistillation process in a coke oven is varied by switching from a high flow in an early stage of the process to a low flow including zero supply in the later stage of the process, a Gieseler fluidity of compounded coal is adjusted to 55-90% of that in uniform heating and to 1.4-2.4 log ddpm. The switching of the feed of fuel to the low flow including zero supply is done 3-10hr after start of dry distillation. When the switching is done just after the temperature in the center of coal filled in a carbonizing chamber has reached 350-700 deg.C, coke having a high after-thermal reaction strength is obtained.
