PURPOSE:To reproduce a magnetic tape recording a high speed phenomenon in a sufficiently low speed without causing disturbance in vertical synchronism and defect of picture. CONSTITUTION:An oscillating signal having a frequency of 6fc from a reference oscillator 3A is divided into reference clock signals of fc, 2fc and 3fc by frequency dividers 3a, 3b and 3c respectively, the signal is changed over by a switch S and applied to a clock signal generation/system control circuit 4. Further, the gain of a gain switching circuit 1a is changed over also in response to the changeover of the switch S. Various synchronizing signals having a multiple of M of the frequency at M=1 respectively are applied to an image pickup device 1 from the circuit 4. A clock signal having a frequency fw-ck', e.g., 4Mfsc' is applied to an A/D converter 2 from the circuit 4. Compressors CP-1-CP-5 being frequency converting means are inserted between the D/A converters DA-1-DA-5 and FM modulators MD-1-MD-5 respectively so as to compress respectively the line sanning speed of analog image pickup signals VID-1-VID-5 obtained from the D/A converters, i.e., the horizontal frequency only into a multiple of (1+20/525).
