PURPOSE:To eliminate the obstruction of filtering flow caused by scum even if a filter tank is continuously operated for a long time, by respectively providing floats each having a suction port communicated with a suspended substance drain pipe to water surfaces of a raw water inflow chamber and a filter chamber. CONSTITUTION:Raw water flowed in from a raw water inflow pipe 19 is impinged on the wall of an inflow annulus 24 to deflect the inflow direction thereof and raised through a raw water inflow chamber while reducing the flowing force thereof. Subsequently, the raw water is subjected to filtering treatment through the granular filter material 17 allowed to fill a filter chamber 13 and treated water is recovered through a treated water chamber 14 by a recovery pipe 20. In this case, floats 35 each having a suction port communicated with a suspended substance drain pipe 23 are respectively provided to the water surfaces of the raw water inflow chamber 12 and the filter chamber 13 and, even if water level difference is generated between both chambers 12, 13 scum floated to the water surface is freely sucked and recovered to be discharged out of the filter tank 11. As a result, even if the filter tank 11 is continuously operated for a long time, the obstruction of filtering treatment caused by scum can be eliminated.
