<p>PURPOSE:To attain the reading from upward by providing an optical system forming an image of a bar code and a linear solid-state image pickup element converting the formed optical image pattern into a time series electric signal so as to locate an arranging part of the optical system and the image pickup element above the moving position of a commodity. CONSTITUTION:The optical system 13 forming the image of a bar code 15 on a commodity 14 and the linear solid-state image pickup element 12 transducing a formed optical image pattern into the time series electric signal are provided to a bar code reading section 1. The location of the optical system 13 and the image pickup element 12 is placed upward from the moving direction 9 by the operator of the commodity 14 through the constitution, and also the direction of the element array of the image pickup element 12 is taken as an angle near a right angle in the moving direction 9 of the commodity 14. Further, the reading of the bar code 15 of the commodity 14 is conducted from above, and the constitution of the bar code reader used in an accounting place of a shop such as a supermarket is simplified.</p> |
