Process and apparatus to generate ignition signals for a gate (V) for phase angle control of an AC voltage, which is connected via the gate (V) to a load (10). According to the invention, the force at a gate (V) influencing the control signals is sensed for every other half-cycle of the AC voltage and the sensed value is stored in a delay circuit (G), so that it determines the instants the gate (V) opens during two successive half cycles of the AC voltage (or in each phase of the AC voltage if the AC voltage is multiphase). This process ensures that an equal amount of electricity flows through the load during each half-cycle belonging to the same full cycle of the AC voltage. This ensures that a pure alternating current flows through the load, without being overlaid with any DC component, even if the control signals, as is often the case, because of over laid interfering voltages etc., vary from the one half cycle to the other.
