PURPOSE:To extract stably features of even a symmetric extremely-small picture pattern by using plural patterns represented as masks by Hermite polynomials weighted by a Gauss function on plural orthogonal coordinate systems. CONSTITUTION:An original picture memory 11 is stored with picture information which is used for feature extraction. Plural mask memories 13a, and 13b-13Q are stored with different mask patterns represented by Hermite polynomials weighted by a Gauss function on plural orthogonal coordinate systems respectively. Information on a mask pattern is selected through a selector 14 and supplied to a product and sum circuit 15. The information on the mask pattern selected by the product and sum circuit 15 and picture information of a specific area read out of the original picture memory 11 are processed by mask arithmetic (product and sum processing). |
