PURPOSE:To prevent the end breakage of a filament in the high-speed spinning of a polyester, by introducing the spun filament into the heating cylinder placed just below the nozzle, and then into a cooling cylinder connected to the heating cylinder and having a specific length, and cooling with chilled air stream of a specific flow rate. CONSTITUTION:A polyester is subjected to the melt-spinning through concentrically arranged nozzles, and cooled slowly under heating with the heating cylinder placed just below the nozzle. The filament is introduced into the cooling cylinder connected to the heating cylinder and having a length satisfying the formula l<=(V-14)<2>-20 [l is length of the cylinder (cm); V is take-up speed (km/ min)], cooled with the cooling air of a flow rate of 20-35cm/sec and taken up at a rate of 5-9km/min. EFFECT:A polyester fiber having excellent U% and uniformity in dyeing can be obtained.
