PURPOSE:To manufacture a working blade having high toughness and ultrahigh resistance to abrasion by melting quickly only the edge member on a base metal by a laser beam, etc. and solidifying quickly the same after the quick melting. CONSTITUTION:Powder or the like of an edge material is placed on the part to be used as the edge on a base material for a blade of a low grade material such as mild steel, carbon steel for structural purpose, alloy steel for structural purpose or the like which is more inexpensive than the edge material. A beam from a heat source having a high energy density is irradiated to said material to melt quickly the part of the powder, etc. first. The powder is welded to the base metal by the melting heat thereof and is quickly cooled by the conduction of the heat to the base metal to create a quickly cooled and solidified layer on the edge material. Such layer is formed and the edge part for working a material to be cut is thus formed. |
