The drinking means 1 comprises a tub 2 for holding a drinking liquid intended for drinking by the animals. The tub 2 is fitted with closure means 4 so that the tub can be closed for cleaning, and the tub is connected via a tube 13 to dispensing means D through which either the drinking liquid can be delivered to the tub, or the tub may be connected to a network R of cleaning liquid; discharge means E are also provided for the cleaning liquid, the system being such that, for cleaning purposes, the trough is closed by the closure means and the cleaning liquid is directed into the drinking means and into the tub and then discharged. <IMAGE>
