PURPOSE:To give versatility to the titled device by providing respective memory devices for document and picture information, calculating an exclusive possesion area of the picture according to line pitch or character pitch of the document, and changing the extent of display of the picture according to the result of calculation. CONSTITUTION:An ROM is connected to the microprocessor CPU of a character processing device through address data and control buses AB, DB, CB, and a keyboard KB is connected through a keyboard control KBC. Further, an RAM, a cursor register CR, a CRT controller CRTC etc. are connected. This RAM is constituted of character and line pitch storing registers CP, LP, a picture buffer IBUF, a character buffer CBUF and storing register LD, CD for the number of line and the number of digits of picture area. The exclusive possession area of picture is calculated according to line pitch or character pitch basing on document and picture information by the CPU. The extent of display of the picture is changed according to the result of calculation, and positional relation of document and picture is determined exactly.
