Catalyst systems for the known copolymerization of C2H4 with at least one C3-8 olrfin consist of (A) a catalyst precursor, Mgmtil(OR)nXpDq, which is used to impregnate (B) a porous support consisting of SiO of particle size 2-8O (20-50) microns, in a wt. ratio of 0.1-0.33:1. The procursor is either partially activated using less than 10 moles activator or is completely activated using at aleast 10 and not more than 400moles activator per mole. T. The activator is AlRcX'd He, where R is a C1-14 aromatic hydrocarbon radical or COR'; R'R; X is Cl, Br or I; D is a liq. electron donor, in which the precursor is soluble and is an alkyl aliphatic or aromatic carboxylate; m=0.5-56; n=0-2; p=2-116; q=2-85; X'=x1 or OR; R is a C1-14 satd. hydrocarbon radical; d=0-1.5; e=0-1; and c+d+e=3.
