PURPOSE:To detect clearly the presence of a glass fiber, and to execute easily an extracting operation even if the glass fiber goes into the human body by making the outside surface of a body of the glass fiber recognizable by X-rays. CONSTITUTION:A body of a glass fiber for optical communication is formed by a core 10 having a refractive index n1, a clad 20 which has a refractive index n2 and covers the outside of the core 10, and a clad 30 which contains lead, also covers the whole outside of the clad 20, and converts the outside surface of the glass fiber body to the surface which can be recognized by X-rays. Generally speaking, the part contributed to propagation of light is the core 10 and a mere small part of the core 10 side of the clad 20, therefore, the clad 30 containing lead exerts no bad influence on propagation of a light.
