The wind screen wiper unit for vehicles with a hinged opening windscreen has twin wiper arms (34,38), fitted on a plate (32) on the windscreen (14). The operating shaft is in two parts (26,30), one part (30) connected to the arm (34) on the windscreen while the other (26) is held in a bracket (28) on the window opening frame (20). A lever (46) connects the first shaft (26) to the wiper motor linkage (50). An arm (54) on the first shaft (26) carries a spring loaded catch peg (56) which locates into a hole (70) in a plate (68) on the base of the second shaft (30). The upper end of the first shaft locates in an opening (74) in the plate centre boss, to transfer the motion from shaft to shaft.
