The invention relates to combustion engines comprising pistons which transmit the pressure of the gases by means of connecting rods to the crankshaft. It is characterised in that a fluid seal, consisting of an annulus of oil, replaces the conventional rings which equip the crowns of the pistons and in that this annulus of oil is held by pressure of a pump 2 in a peripheral annular groove 4 hollowed out of the top part of the piston 3. The annulus of oil of each piston 3 is fed by a hydraulic pump 2 pumping the oil from the bottom of the engine sump and transporting it as far as the piston via a network of distribution channels successively running through the crankshaft 5, the connecting rod 6, the piston pin 20, in order to end in the annular groove of the said piston where it is permanently held by the pressure. <IMAGE>
