PURPOSE:To facilitate the output adjusting work by providing a mechanical constraining device for freely tightening or loosening a rotating shaft and a frame body of a rotary encoder. CONSTITUTION:When a rotary encoder 13 is mounted, the rotary encoder 13 is mounted on a support base 9 so as to constrain an object 1 to be measured to a desired position, for example, so that the tip of the object 1 to be measured is positioned at the reference point P. In this case, errors are generated in the production and assembly of a rotation transmitting mechanism 3 and other parts. But the rotary encoder 13 is mounted on the support base 9 in such a manner that a connector 8 is spread in a desired state between rotation transmitting members 6 and 7 regardless of the generation of these errors. Thereafter, a constraining device 12 is operated to release the constraint between a rotating shaft 10 and a frame body 11 thereby creating a desired measuring condition. |
