Piston of magnesium or a magnesium alloy for internal combustion engines

A piston of magnesium or a magnesium alloy for internal combustion engines is described, in which the magnesium or the magnesium alloy contains finely dispersed inorganic fibres in a quantity from 2 to 60% by weight. The fibres consist of carbon, alumina, aluminium silicate or potassium titanate. The piston has substantially improved properties with respect to its strength and its modulus of elasticity. The thermal expansion of the material is reduced and the resistance to seizure, abrasion and wear is substantially improved.
