[Class 120(ii)] A thread-advancing reel comprises two reel members 10, 11, each having peripheries made up of bars 12, 13 which interdigitate to provide a substantially cylindrical thread-supporting surface, the reel member 10 being arranged concentrically on a shaft 20 and the other reel member 11 being loosely supported within the member 10 so that when the reel is rotating the axis of the reel member 11 is offset and askew with regard to the axis of the shaft 20, bars 13 of the reel member 11 protruding in their lowest possible positions below the bars 12 of the member 10 by reason of the force of gravity upon the reel member 11. The member 10 is driven by the gear 29, attached to the shaft 20, through a sleeve 19 supported in ball bearings 23 in a reel-supporting sleeve 22. Annular gears 35, 36 in the member 10 serve as tracks for the floating member 11 which carries gears 37, 38 meshing with the gears 35, 36, and is prevented from endwise movement by plates 43, 44. The axis of the reel member 11 is adustable by altering the angular position of either gear 35 or 37. Specification 413,414 is referred to.</p> |
