PURPOSE:The titled bacterium belonging to the genus Acetobacterium, assimilating carbon dioxide and hydrogen, accumulating acetic acid in a medium. CONSTITUTION:Acetobacterium Sp. No.446 (FERM-P 7017) belonging to the genus Acetobacterium, consisting of straight bacillus 0.6-1mu wide and 2-5mu long and slightly curved or protruded bacillus, single or duplex bacillus. this bacillus is a strain of anaerobic Gram-positive bacillus having no spore and has characteristically acetic acid as a main metabolite of fermentation. The cultivation is carried out like a common bacterium in principle, and it is required to prevent introduction of oxygen. |
