Process for the hydrogenation of coal

In a process for the hydrogenation of coal in which finely ground coal is mixed with grinding oil coming from the hydrogenation plant and then hydrogenated in one or more reaction steps and in which the vapor-liquid mixture is subjected to a phase separation in a hot separator arranged behind the last reaction stage, the gases and vapors withdrawn at the head of the hot separator are subjected to a partial condensation. The oils which are condensed out in this connection are used as grinding oil. The remaining vapor phase is conducted for further refining into a catalytic fixed-bed reactor.
