PURPOSE:To attain reading of accurate picture information by outputting the information of width of received light of a reflected infrared rays to a picture processing control system from an infrared ray image pickup device so that one of the duplicated reading ranges of an original of a reading section is eliminated by the picture processing system thereby preventing the duplicate reading. CONSTITUTION:The range F of the original read by a solid-state image pickup element 5a is stored in a memory 12 and the range G of the original read by a solid-state image pickup element 5b is stored in a memory 13. Similarly, the duplicated reading range A on the original is read by an infrared ray image pickup element 5c and becomes a range A1. A microcomputer 14 inputs the range A1 and performs a prescribed operation A2(alpha/beta)XA1. Then, the picture information is outputted in the order of address from the memory 12 by a control signal of the microcomputer 14 and the picture information is outputted from the memory 13, and the control signal of the microcomputer 14 neglects the address component corresponding to the range A2 obtained from the result of operation and outputs the picture information in order from the next address. The picture information outputted in this way is the required information without duplicate reading.
