In a heating box 7 especially used for drying lengths of paper or the like, a separating layer 14 separating the cold from the hot portion of the heating box 7 consists of a felt material which is resistant to high temperatures and in which numerous passage holes 17 with flame funnels 19 are formed. A perforated metal plate 24 and a ceramic netting 23 are arranged on the flame side in an easily interchangeable separate box 20. In order to prevent erosion of the passage bores 18 and/or the burner funnels 19, each passage bore 18 is lined with a small ceramic tube. <IMAGE>
