PURPOSE:To detect surely an ID code by writing the ID code in each zone of each block and identify the block to position a tape when one ID code is read out. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic tape TP is divided in the tape breadthwise direction to zones A and B, and each zone is provided with 9 tracks. Eight tracks of these tracks are used for data, and one track is used for parity, and data 1, 2, 3- are written in zones A and B alternately in byte units. The start of a data part is detected by reading a preample; and if the read of the preample fails, the read of the following data part is impossible. However, since the preample is provided in every zone, the read of the preample in the zone B may be successful when the read of the preample in the zone A fails; and if the read of the preample in the zone B is successful, data in the zone B is read normally. |
