PURPOSE:To enhance S/N ratio in reading, preservability and heat resistance and reduce deterioration on erasing, by using a xylene base resin as a thermoplastic resin, in an optical recording medium having a recording layer consisting of a thermoplastic resin and a dye. CONSTITUTION:A xylene base resin consisting of a condensate of a xylene base compound and an aldehyde, preferably a condensate of m-xylene or mesitylene with formaldehyde or a modified material of the condensate, having a number average molecular weight of 300-3,000, and a dye are used in a weight ratio of 1:0.01-20 to provide a recording layer. The dye is preferably a cyanine dye. Preferably, the recording layer further comprises a quencher, which is preferably a transition metal chelated compound with Ni, Co, Cu or the like as a center metal. The recording layer may further comprises various platicizers, a surface active agent or the like, and has a thickness of about 0.03-10mum. |
