PURPOSE:To produce metallic powder suitable for a raw material for powder metallurgy by dropping the melt of the metal to be powdered to the inside surface of a cup under high speed rotation on the outside, scattering the melt by the centrifugal force of the cup to disintegrate the melt and cooling quickly the metal by cooling gas. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal is supplied from a ladle 6 for the molten metal through a supply pipe 7 into a vessel 1 in the stage of producing pulverous metallic powder which is not flat as a raw material for powder metallurgy. A rotating cup 8 is rotated at a high speed around the opening 7A at the top end of the pipe 7 to scatter the molten metal falling onto the inside surface 8A of the cup 8 like pulverous powder by the centrifugal force of the cup 8. Cooling gas is ejected at the same instant from plural nozzles 10 provided near the opening of the cup 8 to cool quickly and solidify the pulverous metallic particles. The particles are separated and recovered from the cooling gas in a recovering vessel 11. The cooling gas heated to a high temp. is cyclically used again as the cooling gas by a blower 14 after the heat retained therein is recovered with heat exchangers 13, 15.
