PURPOSE:The titled peroxide comprising a specified unit and being easy to produce or handle and high in an initiator efficiency, prepared by reacting a peroxidizing agent with 7,12-dimethyloctadecane-1,20-dicarboxylic acid chloride. CONSTITUTION:A polymeric diacyl peroxide comprising a structural unit of the formula and having an average MW of 2,000-17,000 can be easily prepared by adding 7,12-dimethyloctadecane-1,20-dicarboxylic acid chloride in small portions to an aqueous solution of a peroxidizing agent such as sodium peroxide or potassium peroxide to effect their reaction under agitation and, after the reaction, separating the product from the waste reaction solution. The reaction is carried out preferably at a temperature of -10-40 deg.C for 0.5-2hr. The concentration of an aqueous solution of each of the materials, i.e., dibasic acid chloride and peroxidizing agent is 1-15wt%, preferably 2-10wt%.
