PURPOSE:To provide a pressure-sensitive copying paper high in color developing speed and developed color density and capable of producing a developed color image having favorable light resistance, wherein a color former layer comprising a specified novel fluoran compound is provided on a base. CONSTITUTION:The color former layer comprising a novel fluoran compound of formula I , wherein each of R1 and R2 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, R1 and R2 may form a saturated ring with N, R3 is H, (subst.) benzyl or (subst.) phenyl, and R4 is lower alkyl, e.g., 2-benzylamino-3-methoxy-6-diethylamino-fluoran, is provided on the base to obtain the objective pressure-sensitive copying paper. The compound of formula I can be produced, e.g., by a method wherein an aniline derivative of formula II and a benzophenone compound of formula III are brought into reaction at 0-80 deg.C in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, the reaction product is added to water, and pH is adjusted to 8-10 by adding sodium hydroxide, thereby precipitating the product. |
