A sealing device of the wedge section of draining machines has been disclosed which consists of a lower screen acting as a supporting screen and an upper screen acting as a covering screen, which circulate round the supporting and idler rollers and are jointly passed through the wedge section and the pairs of pressing rollers with the material to be drained arriving from the material approach section. The object of the invention is to produce a sealing device which makes it possible to maintain pressure build-up even in the boundary zones, without there being a danger of a lateral escape of suspension. The object is achieved by arranging sealing strips on the lateral ends of the screening belts (9) in the vicinity of the wedge section (1), which sealing strips consist of a sleeve (7) or sealing belts (16, 18) and are fixed to a supporting strip (8) in such a way that their sealing ends rest against the screening belt (6) to which they are associated in each case. As a result of this, the pressure build-up in the wedge section occurs evenly and there are no losses due to lateral escape of suspension. <IMAGE>
