Machinery for producing tufted fabrics by use of needles to carry loops of yarn through the fabric for retention by a complementary hook is provided with means for sensing the rupture or loss of yarn at any one needle and stopping the machinery to allow the yarn feed to be restored. The absence of the yarn is detected by removal of a discontinuity in an alarm circuit which is dependant on the presence of the yarn. - The circuit may be completed by direct electrical continuity if the hook and needle are at least partly of electrically conductive materials and are normally sepd. from mutual contact by the intermediate path of the yarn, but touch to become series components of the alarm circuit if the yarn breaks.(0/3)
