PURPOSE:To contrive to prolong the life of a roll for hot rolling by preventing heat fatique, by forming the roll from an Fe-Ni alloy of which the contents Ni and C are specified. CONSTITUTION:A cast ingot containing 33-43% of Ni and 0.05-0.5% of C and having one or more of Cr, Si, Mo, Mn, Ta, W, Nb and Ti added thereto in a proper amount is molded by hot forging to obtain a roll for hot rolling. Because the roll having this composition is low in coefficient of linear expansion and slow in the crack generation even if receives a heating-cooling cycle during hot rolling, the life of the roll becomes long. In addition, the stock material cost and processing cost of this roll are low as compared with that of a conventional hard metal one and the unit cost thereof is relatively inexpensive.
