PURPOSE:To provide a low cost, high speed and high quality full color printing apparatus, constituted so that a plurality of recording electrodes are simultaneously selected and a current supplied heat generating recording head which performs time sharing driving is used. CONSTITUTION:The selection signal electrodes 301-318 of a recording electrode side are selected and simultaneously apply signal voltages corresponding data to return electrodes 101-105. Only one recording electrode is always selected to one set of the return electeodes and the omission of an electric field is not generated between the recording electrodes. One sub-scanning period is divided into the first half and the latter half and the conbinations of the return electrodes 101 and 102, 103 and 104 are respectively driven in pairs in the first half while the combinations of the return electrodes 102 and 103, 104 and 105 are respectively driven in pairs in the latter half. When the numbers of the selection signal electrodes are set to M and the numbers of the return electrodes to 2N+1, MXN numbers of the recording electrodes can be driven by M+(2N+1) numbers of drive circuits. At this time, simultaneous writing is perofrmed for one selected period by N-numbers of the recording electrodes and the duty thereof comes to 1/M. |
