PURPOSE:To reduce the load of an operator without uniform checking by adding information to each character to be checked and indicating a doubtful character. CONSTITUTION:Each inputted character is recognized by a pattern recognizing part 2 and outputted to a buffer memory 4. The memory 4 outputs the inputted character as character string information 41 to a word matching part 5 and a check information adding part 7. The adding part 7 compares the information 41, an input to the word matching part 5, with character string information 51, the matched output of the matching part 5, and outputs character string information 71 to which check information is added in each character by an algorithmic instruction. If the information 71 includes the information indicating the difference between a character string obtained as the result of pattern recognition and a character string by word matching, the displaying method of the character is changed from usual one, so that the operator may check only the character.
